It started with an off the cuff comment chatting with my friend Simon who lives in New York.
The following day – 31 May – I’m on the 6th floor of the newly revamped Foyles Bookshop. What have I signed up for? I will be the only blog novice who hasn’t a clue about starting a blog – there were loads of us!
Simone Baird @ CleverBoxer, the organiser was really friendly and enthusiastic.
Four inspirational bloggers to talk about their blogging journey and what they learnt from their triumphs and screw-ups:
A Lady in London , Julie Falconer, an American ex pat and global traveller blogger. She took a strategic approach which I understood, having worked in marketing. A great introduction and after her talk she flew off to Vietnam.
Blogs away and definitely have blog will travel.
NowHereThis TimeOut London blogmistress creator and writer Sonya Barber talked about how she started the first Timeout blog. She brought it to life with style and personality, loads of quirky, witty banter and authenticity.
Now feeling inspired and motivated to give it a go.
Blog designer expert, street art blogger and the creative designer of the TimeOut London blog, Mark Jenkins. It was like hearing a new language for the first time – responsive theme, permalinks, plug-ins, post slug and breakpoint!
His message – keep it simple…..definitely that’s me but can I have a blog design idiots guide to creating one too?
Loads of great advice about blog design do’s and don’ts.
Global head of dating for Timeout, Charly Lester, who started a blog aged 29 about going on 30 dates
before she turned 30, initially as a Facebook post challenge. Two years later, she turned her blog into a career as a writer, broadcaster, dating expert and founder of the dating awards.
Really inspired me.
So what about the 7 day food blog challenge?
Networking afterwards at the Arts Club I stupidly mentioned to Simone that I tried to blag a free ticket to her event through a family connection who knows someone at TimeOut London.
Her response, to my confession was unexpected and about to send me on a blog novice journey at hyperlink speed.
Simone said”what’s stopping you from starting this food blog?”
“No excuses”
“The time is 18.20 Sunday 31 May”
“The challenge is set……. 7 days to start your blog”
“If you post 3 blogs by 18.20 7 June I will refund you the cost of the event”
Wow, what a challenge, can we do it?
Bob might be a builder but anyone who knows me, knows I’m crap at IT and may be a blagger but am I a blogger?
I break it gently to Simon, who’s a great friend and very supportive about giving it a go.
We really hope you enjoy our food blog, created within 7 days .
We would love to hear from you.
Big thanks especially to:
Simone Baird, you gave us the challenge, the motivation, and the deadline.
Thanks also to:
Sonya Barber, Mark Jenkins, Charly Lester, Julie Falconer, Alan Rutter and the Clever Boxer and TimeOut London Live and Learn teams.
And of course to our friends and family for all your support.
Enough thanks, this is not the Blog Awards, we can only dream…..
